Chillin' out by the Nation's Capitol Building
On May 10th I packed up my bags and flew to Washington D.C. to work for the summer as an intern for a government affairs and public relations firm named Policy Impact. I am in a cohort of 25 other interns all from the University of Utah sponsored by our political institution called the Hinckley Institute of Politics all living in student-subsidized apartments in the Van Ness area of Washington D.C., which is really close to the National Zoo.
So far I am having a blast and trying to work to get more experience in the area of business consulting, marketing, etc. I am working under the direction of an account director named Josh Heath working on projects for our clients including P.I.R.E., Skype, Hutchison Whampoa, 3, and many others. I got to attend a Senate Finance Committee Meeting "on the hill" on Individual tax reform, might be a real snoozer for some, but I loved it! I saw Senator Orrin Hatch along with a lot of other cool Congressional peeps.

It has only been two weeks, but I have loved them. I work Monday through Friday 9:00 - 6:00, which was hard to adjust to at first, but my office environment is really fun. I get to work with two Chinese Girls (Liu Yan "Daisy" and Shen Ling Yan "Sally") who are from the ShanTao University, which was founded by one of our clients. They are really funny and we always have each other laughing.
One of our principals in our firm gave us second row tickets to the Washington Nationals Baseball game. So Daisy, Sally, our Executive Assistance BeiBei, and I went to the game. We ate at the Five Guys Burger place (similar to Inn 'N Out) which was really good.

There is so much to do here and too much to blog about. Long story short, it has one heck of an adventure thus far and I am excited for the next two and half months. We had one exciting Memorial Day weekend, which I hope to blog and post pics about shortly. But as for now, goodbye Salt Lake and Hello D.C.
